16th century graphic art from the Northern and Southern Netherlands > Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum

Rotterdam, Frans Hogenberg, 16th century, Bierens de Haan collection
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum is an extremely mulit-faceted museum. Wandering through the galleries, the visitor travels through the history of art, from the Middle Ages to the present day. In addition to paintings by old masters, such as Hieronimus Bosch, Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt, the collections include works by modernist, impressionist and surrealist artists. Moreover, the museum can boast of large collections of work by contemporary artists and of applied art and design.

For those who wish to get an impression of the museum’s collections, the Digital Depot is available, where a great diversity of works of art hang side by side. By using a large touch screen, one can obtain complete information on the objects and paintings that are on display. An enormous three dimensional “cloud” of data and images is projected on one of the walls, offering an unexpected view of the almost 120,000 objects included in the museum’s collection.

The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum puts on temporary exhibition on a regular basis and organizes debates, guided tours, lectures and courses. There are workshops and other special activities for children.

The Print Gallery can be visited on appointment on week days, from 10.00 till 17.00 hours.
