The Netherlands Maritime Museum Amsterdam is housed in the National Naval Depot, built in 1656 as a navy arsenal. The collection, one of the most important in the world, tells the story of the maritime past of the Netherlands.

The Netherlands Maritime Museum Amsterdam has a rich collection concerning the maritime past of the Netherlands. With the help of ship models, paintings and prints, drawings and photographs, maps and instruments and various kinds of implements, the museum is able to present an accurate impression of the Dutch maritime past. This past is not only presented in the exhibition, but also by the museum's collection of atlases and globes, travel stories and descriptions of foreign countries in manuscript and print, one of the most extensive collections in the world.
