1975-2001: Dutch History Photo Commissions > Election Campaign '81
Exhibition: 1981-1982
The sky-high unemployment figures, the decay of the inner cities and immigration were key issues of the 1981 election campaign. Points of contention abounded. Are immigrant workers still welcome, now that so many Dutch people are unemployed? Which position should the Netherlands take up with regard to nuclear weapons and nuclear plants? Purchasing power has to go down, but who will have to make sacrifices and to which extent?
The election campaign preceding the parliamentary elections of 26 May 1981 was captured in the period from February until May 1981.
