Freelance photo journalist. Studied at the Apeldoorn Fotovakschool from 1975 until 1977, and specialized in 'visual communication' from 1976 until 1978 at the Koninklijke Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. In 1975 he started work as a freelance photographer, focusing on political and social photography. Initially his aim was just to 'register' political abuse. 

From 1979 until 1983 he taught photography at  the University of Amsterdam. Between 1978 and 1985 he made photographs for, amongst others, the daily newspapers De Volkskrant, Trouw, NRC-Handelsblad and Het Parool, and the journals De Nieuwe Revu, De Tijd, Elsevier, Plaatwerk and Flying Dutchman. His work is included in the collections of the International Institute of Social History, the Amsterdam City Archives, the United Nations in Geneva and the Leiden University Prentenkabinet.

Solo and group exhibitions: 'The South-African townships' (1987) in the Amsterdam Historical Museum, 'After the persecution of the Jews. Images of a New Generation' (1985) in the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, 'Photo's for the City' (1986) in Museum Fodor in Amsterdam and 'Dutch photography since the fifties (1991) in the New Church in Amsterdam.
