Gossip
Due to German censorship, the population never knew whether to trust the information about what was actually happening. As a result, the wildest rumours were circulated. A story was told of dozens of German soldiers who had gone missing in Amsterdam '… and now and then they pull one of them out of the canals with some stab wounds.' The NSB used this poster to stem the tide of unwanted rumours.
6000 posters were printed measuring 31.5 by 47 inches (80 x 120 cm), 25,000 measuring 24 by 35 inches (60 x 90 cm), and 30,000 measuring 12 by 18 inches (30 x 45 cm), total cost: Dfl. 4700. The Dutch Railways purchased 1500 copies to hang in stations and in trains. This campaign wasn't very effective: the population concluded that the truth was apparently not allowed to be told.
