Come and see! Puppetry in pictures. > Hand puppet

Hand puppets. Photomontage: Michaël Ferron, 1998 A puppet in the form of a glove, manipulated by hand. The player uses his of her fingers to move the puppet’s various parts. The index finger is inserted into the hollow neck to move the head, while the thumb goes into one sleeve and the little finger – sometimes together with the middle and the ring finger – goes into the other sleeve. In most cases, little hands are attached to the sleeves. Once in a while, a pair of diminutive legs dangle from under the jacket. The hand puppet does not have any body under its clothes: the player’s hand and arm give it the volume it needs.
