Seven institutions managing Dutch heritage - International Institute of Social History, EYE Film Institute Netherlands, Allard Pierson, Museum for Communication, Dutch Archives for Graphic Designers (NAGO), Dutch Poster Museum Hoorn and the Advertising Arsenal (ReclameArsenaal) – have joined forces to provide a representative picture of the main political, cultural and historical posters in the Netherlands from 1870 to the present.
In two years’ time approximately 52,000 posters have been made available on the website The Memory. These posters are all public resources.
About the image:
In 1994, the art historians Jan Fontein and John Vrieze set up an exhibition for the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam on recent archeological excavations in China. The archeological discoveries date back to the period between 8000 and 6000 B.C. The design agency UNA Designers in Amsterdam illustrated, among other, the poster.
