1975-2001: Dutch History Photo Commissions > Michel Pellanders
Wormerveer, 31 December 1951
Studied in Amsterdam, at the Rietveld Academy from 1972 until 1978 and at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten from 1978 until 1980. After graduation he taught as a visiting lecturer at a number of academies. He contributes to books, photo commissions, documentaries and exhibitions. People are at the centre of his work. Subjects like 'work' and 'social processes' return in the documentary Nachtarbeid (Nightshift) (1980) and in books such as De kater van het gelijk (The Hangover of Being Right), In het spoor van Heijenbrock (In Heijenbrock's tracks) and Flirt.
He also has an interest in foreign cultures. The film Maan, oerwoud, vuur, aarde (Moon, Forest, Fire, Earth) (1990) and the photo book Mekarõn are about Amazon Indians. For the books Mekarõn, Awi (2000) and Tsanga-tsanga-na, he worked together with Marion Hoekveld.
His work has been on show in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum voor Volkenkunde (Museum of Ethnology) in Rotterdam and the Antwerp Culture Centre.
