Started out her career as a fashion photographer, but soon threw herself into the socially conscious and politically committed photography that was characteristic for the seventies. She feels committed to the women's movement. She regularly works together with Catrien Ariëns.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 she frequently travelled through Romania and the former Soviet Union. Between 1997 and 2000 she made 15 trips to China to capture a society changing fast through Western influences, against the background of communism on the wane.
