1975-2001: Dutch History Photo Commissions > Broadcasting in the Netherlands
Exhibition: 1982-1983
When traditional religious and socio-political barriers broke down, this affected the broadcasting corporations as well. At the beginning of the eighties the broadcasting system therefore went through a transitional phase. This was the subject of this photo commission, that had to depict both the actual situation and the future of broadcasting.
Points of departure were: the radio amateurs, the new video culture, the emergence of an alternative television circuit and regional and local broadcasting companies. Some attention is given as well to audiovisual technology as such (Philips, the next Firato multimedia technology fair), television experiments with teletext and viewdata and the increasing use of television as a teaching aid in schools, universities and education centres.
