René Meeuws (Echt 1950) has played the hurdy-gurdy in various groups since 1978. He is a member of the music group Luiaerdsgild, with which he has performed in over 1500 school concerts over the years. He has recorded several CD's as a member of the trio Appellation Contrôlée, playing arrangements of twentieth century music and with new work composed especially for the trio.

He has played the hurdy-gurdy as a guest with the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Chamber Orchestra and the band Golden Earring, among others. He has led dozens of hurdy-gurdy courses both in the Netherlands and abroad.
