Erik Beijer (1959-2017) studied sociology and economics while learning to play the viol and percussion at the Utrecht conservatory. He performs in concert and recordings with Olim (medieval Spanish music), the Egidius Quartet (Tielman Susato), El Ayre Espagnol (Spanish baroque music), ‘t Uitnemend Kabinet (Dutch viola da gamba repertoire) and Senario (Quadros and Triosonatas by Telemann).
He was commissioned by Dutch public broadcasting service Teleac to compile a course on Dutch music. He produced the accompanying book in collaboration with Leo Samama, with whom he also directed the radio and CD recordings for the programme.
Since 1983, he had been one of the driving forces behind musical ensembleCamerata Trajectina, which specialises in Dutch works from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. His work as a viol player and percussionist can be heard on six LP’s and 16 CD’s produced by the ensemble thus far.
In the past years he has also been dedicated to the production of CD recordings of ancient music. He served as the recording engineer for the street song project, and has edited the recordings for use on the website and the CD. He also played the double bass on several songs.
