Frederik van Eeden
A collection of the Allard Pierson. De collecties van de universiteit van Amsterdam
Frederik van Eeden (1860-1932) was a writer, psychiatrist and idealist, a man who wanted to make the world a better place. He linked his literary talent and his ambitions for leadership to his social ideals. Furthermore, he was keenly interested in giving spiritual meaning to life. Van Eeden was a much talked of figure, with both devoted followers and fierce opponents. People still read his works nowadays, while both contemporaries and later generations drew inspiration from his plans and ideas.
Frederik van Eeden’s life, works and personality are reflected both in his own publications and in the studies written about him. He is very much present in the Frederik van Eeden Society’s collection, which is administered by the Amsterdam University Library. The Memory made a selection from this collection for this website.
