A romantic view. Romanticism in 70 paintings > Basile de Loose

Het gelukkige gezin, Basile de Loose (1809-1885), 1856

A part of the collection that should be mentioned separately, are the paintings by the Flemish master Basile de Loose. His portraits and genre paintings, in which very often family life is idolized, remind the viewer of the Austrian polymath artist Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. De Loose is the most important representative of the ‘Biedermeier’ sentiment in The Netherlands. His occasionally considered mealy-mouthed scenes go beyond the work of his contemporaries by his sense of humor and technical superiority.
