The more than 500 objects from the collection Panorama Mesdag shown in the Memory of the Netherlands, are divided into three categories: paintings, drawings and photography.

Paintings  
In addition to the absolute highlight of the collection, the panorama, Panorama Mesdag also houses a collection of paintings. These are primarily paintings by Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten.
Mesdag was one of the major figures in The Hague School and along with his fellow artists painted realistic Dutch landscapes. Panorama Mesdag holds a relatively large number of early works, from the period before Mesdag focused on painting seascapes and the life of fishermen in Scheveningen. His wife primarily painted still life paintings and landscapes.

Drawings
Panorama Mesdag also owns a large collection of works of art on paper by the Mesdag couple: watercolor paintings, drawings and numerous sketches, both loose sheets and in sketchbooks. The couple made very many sketches: trees, farms, cloudy skies, sunsets, seascapes, boats, figure studies and observations of the world around them. Some of the sketches showed notes for later refinement in paintings. Sientje Mesdag-van Houten often used her husband’s sketchbooks and vice-versa. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish the drawing styles of the couple.

Photography
The modest photography collection includes portraits of Mesdag and his family, friends and fellow artists. Also included are a few photos of important events and albums with, among other, photos of the house on the Laan van Meerdervoort and of Panorama Mesdag. In addition, there are photos of Scheveningen and the view from the Seinpostduin that were undoubtedly used to paint the panorama and other works of art.
