- Foto, zw/w. De foto is genomen vanaf een dak, waarvan links op de voorgrond een gedeelte zichtbaar is. Uiterst links takken met gebedsvlaggen. Rechts op de voorgrond een gebouwencomplex (huizen?) waarvan dit dak deel uitmaakt. Achter deze gebouwen is het kloosterpaleis zichtbaar. Links de bovenverdieping met monnikencellen, zichtbaar aan de rij ramen. Rechts hogere gebouwen zoals tempel, paleis en schatkamer. In 1912 werd het kloosterpaleis voor een groot deel vernietigd door regeringstroepen vanwege steun aan de Chinese bezetter. Het heeft een tijd als postkantoor gediend en uiteindelijk werd het alle koninklijke macht afgenomen. — Tengye Ling is één van de vier kloosterpaleizen van Lhasa. De anderen zijn: Tsomön Ling, Kunde Ling en Drib Tsemchok Ling. Uit de hoofdlama's van deze kloosterpaleizen werden de regenten van Tibet gekozen. Omdat de incarnatie van een Dalai Lama op zeer jonge leeftijd gevonden werd, was een tijdelijke regering onder leiding van een regent noodzakelijk totdat de Dalai Lama de leeftijd van 18 jaar bereikte. Onder de Vijfde werd bepaald dat de regent alleen uit de hoofdlama's van de vier kloosterpaleizen gekozen kon worden. — Tengye Ling was de meest belangrijke van de vier en de hoofdlama van dit klooster had de Mongoolse titel Demo Qutuqtu. In het klooster werden mysteriespelen opgevoerd (Waddel, 522). — Rechts op de achtergrond is de Potala zichtbaar, links de Chakpo Ri. — Foto's gemaakt in opdracht van het Keizerlijk Russisch Aardrijkskundig Genootschap. Fotografen Norzunov en Tsybikof waren beide lamaisten en hadden toegang tot de verboden stad Lhasa. — Oplage: 12
