- Drawn and etched by Pietro Santi Bartoli after the frieze on Palazzo Gaddi, Rome, painted by Polidoro da Caravaggio with the assistance of Maturino Fiorentino. The suite appears in the de Rossi Indice of 1677, but may date from the early years of Giovanni Giacomo's activity (i.e., the 1650's); see Indice, p. 36. The title in the de' Rossi Indice of 1735 is: Fregio dipinto incontro la Maschera d'Oro. The subject of print 3 is given in the legend as: Aegyptiorvm sive Afrorvm peregrinatio, and that of print 8 as: Navalis pvgna ad Tiberis ostia. P.L. de Castris suggests that these may refer to the mythical migration of the Etruscans to Italy (Polidoro da Caravaggio, p. 499). Title taken from legend of 1st plate
