The poet Maurits Mok drew his inspiration from the legendary figure of the Vliegende Hollander (Flying Dutchman), who was prepared to sail to hell for the sake of making profits, even though he would have to burn his sails by doing so. Before publishing a hardcover collection of poems, he sent out an invitation to subscribe to it because the print run was intended to remain limited, no more than 250 copies. The invitation has been preserved as well.
