- Description
- Allegorie op de verkregen vrijheid van de Protestantse godsdienst in de Nederlanden, 1577. Prins Willem I met lans en vrijheidshoed bij de personificatie van de Godsdienst voor een monument voor de strijd voor vrijheid van geloof met de graven van Egmond en Horne staande op de knielende Alva, in zonnestralen. Links de vlag van de geuzen. Hierbij ook de Dood en Hercules. Op de voorgrond de overwonnen tegenstanders, vluchtende katholieken, razende moordende soldaten en een slachtoffer van de ketterverbrandingen. Een ruiter richt zijn pistool op de prins.
