The goal of ‘Nederlandsche spreekwoorden’ from 1850 is to teach children about values. The pages contains expressions combined with lithos and a rhyming text. Almost all saying still exist in Dutch. The illustrations show trades, clothing, interiors etcetera from around 1850. That people do not change, is shown by characteristics such as stupidity. But precision and cleverness are shown as well.
