Albert Verwey, ‘Reading and reflections of poetry’. Farewell lecture, 23 May 1935

In 1935, Verwey took leave from his position as professor of Dutch Literature. In his farewell lecture he summed up his way of teaching: “Reading and reflecting on poetry [...] was in both my speeches and our practical lessons the work area, within which I continually tried to drill myself and the students.” Verwey was way ahead of his time with these tutorials.
