Jacques Perk

Nothing as difficult as writing a first line. The opening line of the first sonnet of Jacques Perk’s Mathilde-cyclus came down to us in all kinds of variations. The version on view here (“Klinkt en vermaakt, gebeeldhouwde sonnetten”) never made it to the printing press: it was, and quite rightly so, discarded in favour of “Klinkt helder op, gebeeldhouwde sonnetten”.
