Tafelblad beschilderd met voorstelling uit de klassieke geschiedenis

- Tafelbladen in deze vorm staan bekend als Amelander tafelbladen. Het is onbekend of deze tafelbladen op Ameland beschilderd werden. Mogelijk werden ze uit de zaanstreek of uit Amsterdam meegebracht. Er zijn maar weinig complete tafels bewaard gebleven. Op den duur hing men het tafelblad als een schilderij aan de muur. De onderstellen zijn daardoor verdwenen. Uit de vele voorstellingen van Cyrus en Tomyris op huisraad blijkt dat dit verhaal een speciale betekenis had voor de Hollanders in de 18de eeuw. Waarom, is niet bekend. De voorstelling is gemaakt naar een prent van Paulus Pontius - die deze maakte naar een schilderij van Rubens dat dateert uit 1616-1618.
