- De goudsbloem was, als een van oudsher inheemse bloem die in ieders tuin bloeide, veel meer algemeen dan de tulp. De oudste vermelding van goudsbloemen op tegels is uit 1611 en komt uit Leiden. We kennen de goudsbloem op vele soorten tegels, alleen of in een boeket in de vaas op de bloempottegels of ook vaak samen met oranjeappels of tulpen. Hun populariteit in de opstandige gewesten zal samenhangen met die van de prinsen uit het huis Oranje.
