Gemeentemuseum Den Haag
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag owns a large collection of modern art and other collections covering disciplines such as fashion, music and arts & crafts. The art collection holds the largest number of Mondriaans in the world; included are renound pieces such as the Victory Boogie Woogie (donated by the Dutch National Bank in 1998). Gemeentemuseum Den Haag also owns paintings by Pablo Picasso, Theo van Doesburg, Bart van der Leck, Charly Toorop and Francis Bacon.
Drawings, musical instruments and clothing are on display throughout the museum. Visitors can walk through special 'style rooms', exhibiting arts & crafts objects in an authentic setting. In 2005, the Museum also set up an number of so called- Wonder rooms', aimed especially at teenage visitors. The wonder rooms feature objects (chosen by the museum's curator in consultation with the target audience), in a specially built interactieve setting.
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag first opened its doors in 1935. The building in which the museum is situated was designed by the famous Dutch architect Architect Hendrikus Petrus Berlage; it was his last major project before his death in 1934.
