Vote for a woman on the political left (1972)

Through the years, the IIAV has assembled a fascinating collection of nearly 3800 Dutch posters.

The posters beautifully illustrate the development of the Dutch women's movement. The oldest posters mark an important landmark of the first feminist wave: the National Exhibition of Women's Labour that took place in 1898. The core of the collection however deals with the second feminist wave. Together, the posters sketch out an image of one of the biggest social changes of the twentieth century: the emancipation of both women and men. The collection includes nearly all subjects that involve women and the position of women: from economic independence to sexual violence, and from racism to gay rights. A few themes have been listed below.

Politics
Economic independence
Health and body
Migrant and refugee women
Culture and science
Governmental emancipation policy

Whoever wishes to gain an overview of the themes and styles of the women's movement in the Netherlands can view the posters for the 'international women's day'. Women have organised festivities every year on 8 March to express the solidarity of women around the world and to improve the situation of women. The visitor can see the contents of these celebrations and the style of the posters changing every year.
