Paintings of the Rijksmuseum
A collection of the Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum’s collection of paintings is famous throughout the world. Masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Jan Steen are great favourites with visitors. In fact, most people come to the Rijksmuseum to admire the seventeenth-century Dutch paintings - the period known as the Golden Age of the Netherlands. Less well-known, but just as beautiful, are the paintings dating back to the Middle Ages and to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. And there is also the museum’s small but interesting collection of paintings from outside the Netherlands. Numerous paintings from the Rijksmuseum collection can be viewed via these web pages.
