Come and see! Puppetry in pictures. > Katrijn

Katrijn. Illustration: Hetty Paërl, 2001Jan Klaassen’s consort. She wears a large-brimmed hat, a floral-patterned dress and often a little apron. Katrijn has a way with words. She is not pretty. “Her nose is like a ship’s pointy bowsprit and her mouth big enough for five sacks of taters,” says Jan when he introduces her to the audience as his fiancée. Katrijn and Jan are forever squabbling, but it is she who wears the pants. Trijntje Peterselie (parsley) is the pet name Jan Klaassen has given her.
