Magazines cannot do without famous people who are newsworthy and famous people often cannot do without media attention. Dutch theater, music, film and stage artists often appeared in pictures in Het Leven. But there was also room for foreign celebrities. The heavy weight boxer Tony Galento (Two-ton Tony) is seen gazing at his opponent Joe Louis in a crystal ball, the night before their fight for the world championship in New York in 1939. Galento predicted that he would make mincemeat of his opponent but Louis won the fight. Despite losing the fight, Galento still earned USD 80,000.
