The museum shared its library with the National Tax Academy until 1966, the year the latter closed down. In Mr Van der Poel’s view as founder of the museum, however, they were inseparable. The higher standards now in force for the museum were also applied to the library. In 1993, the museum’s board of governors took the initiative to establish a special chair in the History of Fiscal Law at Leiden University, one more reason why the library had to professionalize. This is how the Fiscal History Library came into being.
