The Niestadt photo collection of the Zijpe Museum > The Niestadts A family of photographers

Stamp on backside of photographSint Maartensbrug in the municipality of Zijpe (North-Holland) is the birthplace of a famous Dutch line of photographers. At least twenty families of photographers, some of which are better known than others, are directly related to them. There are also photographers all over the world, from Australia to Costa Rica, who bear the name of Niestadt. The progenitor of this line was Gerhardt Bernhard Heinrich Niestadt, born on 31 October 1842 in Berge, Germany, the son of a Westphalian tailor who moved to the Zijpe area.
