- Dit is een foto van de rivier de Merwede bij Sliedrecht, genomen vanaf de spoorbrug. De Merwede is de benedenloop van de rivier de Waal en tot 1904 was het ook een benedenloop van de rivier de Maas. De Merwede loopt van Loevestein tot Dordrecht, op de grens van de provincies Noord-Brabant en Zuid-Holland en is ongeveer 25 kilometer lang. Van Loevestein tot Werkendam spreekt men van de Boven-Merwede en van Werkendam tot Dordrecht van de Beneden-Merwede. De gemeente Sliedrecht is door zijn ligging ideaal voor industrie. Deze industrie omvat in de eerste plaats grote baggerbedrijven, ook het Nationaal Baggermuseum bevindt zich hier. De industrie links op de foto hoort bij Dordrecht en is geen baggerbedrijf, maar het chemie-concern Dupont. De huizen rechts liggen in Sliedrecht.
