- Achter het geluidsscherm bevindt zich de Gaasperdammerweg (Bijlmermeer) in Amsterdam. Deze snelweg verbindt de rijksweg Amsterdam-Utrecht met de rijksweg Amsterdam-Amersfoort. Sinds de plannen voor de aanleg van deze weg in de jaren zeventig hield men zich ook bezig met het probleem van de geluidshinder. Met de auto was het niet eenvoudig om in de Bijlmermeer te komen of de Bijlmermeer te verlaten. De rijroutes en uitvalswegen waren ontoereikend. De Gaasperdammerweg bood hiervoor een oplossing, maar er ontstond ook een ander probleem, namelijk geluidshinder. De Actiegroep Geluidshinder Gaasperdammerweg heeft zich met dit probleem beziggehouden en pleitte voor het overkappen van de Gaasperdammerweg. Door problemen bij de bouw van ringwegen kreeg de Gaasperdammerweg geen lokale functie toegewezen, maar werd het een rijksweg. Dat betekende dat er veel meer verkeer over zou rijden dan oorspronkelijk was bedoeld. Aan geluidsschermen was echter niet gedacht. Na jaren van strijd tussen bewoners en de gemeente Amsterdam werden in 1982 geluidsschermen geplaatst. Een totale overkapping waar men om vroeg is er nooit gekomen.
