Fortune teller
Up to 1950, hawkers dominated the street scene in Beijing. Their shouting and songs resounded through the streets of the densely populated neighborhoods (hutongs). They sold food, drinks, household items and all kinds of services. Fortune tellers revealed the good and bad omens for the future life of their clients. Especially in favor with Western photographers were hairdressers and fortune tellers.
