On 20 September 1839, the first train in the Netherlands rode from Amsterdam to Haarlem. A party train accompanied by music left Eenhonderd Roe (One Hundred Rods) station, named after a nearby inn at what is now the Westergas factory, for Haarlem. The event has been depicted on many prints such as this lithograph by M. Mourot.
