- Foto, zw/w. Vergezicht op Phurpa Chok Ritrö (of kluizenarij) vanuit het zuidoosten. De voorgrond bestaat uit een kaal en stenig landschap aan de basis van een heuvelrug. Bovenop de heuvel, in het midden van de foto, ligt de ritro of kluizenarij. Grote wolken hangen boven de kluizenarij. — Phurpa Chok ligt bovenop een berg direct boven het Taglung klooster in de 'Dode' vallei. De Dode vallei ligt ten noorden van Lhasa en de toegang tot deze vallei is onmiddelijk ten oosten van Sera. — Dit kluizenarij is Phurpa Chok genoemd, omdat op deze plaats de heilige phurbu (rituele dolk) gevonden is. In de legende behoorde de dolk aan de godheid Dorje Shonnü, die deze een soort toverkracht gaf waardoor de dolk kon vliegen. Deze vloog van India naar een heuvel achter Sera, waar de Phurpa Chok hermitage gebouwd is om deze gebeurtenis te blijven herinneren. (Chan,160,193) — Foto's gemaakt in opdracht van het Keizerlijk Russisch Aardrijkskundig Genootschap. Fotografen Norzunov en Tsybikof waren beide lamaïsten en hadden toegang tot de verboden stad Lhasa. — Oplage: 12
