- De Regering van de Banne van Oostzaan was het plaatselijke waterschapsbestuur. Dit zorgde vanaf de 14de eeuw voor de dijken en de waterhuishouding van de Banne van Oostzaan. In 1789 werd deze bestuurseenheid opgesplitst in een apart waterschapsbestuur (de polder Oostzaan) en twee gemeenten (Oostzaan en Zaandam). Hensbekers werden meestal bij speciale gelegenheden aangeschaft of geschonken, bijvoorbeeld bij de najaarsschouw. Het was een goede gewoonte om dan gezamenlijk uit één bokaal te drinken ten teken van broederschap, vriendschap en verbondenheid. Dit noemde men verhenzen. Bijzonder bij dit glas zijn de holle knopen boven elkaar die de steel van het glas vormen.
