Americans out of Vietnam. Supporting the liberation front.
Poster commissioned by the Vietnam Liberation Front Support Committee and made by Jan Wolkers in 1968. In addition to the trade unions and political parties, the archives of the solidarity movements represent an important pillar of the IISG collection. The 1960s saw the rise of a great number of country committees in the Netherlands. These committees were particularly aimed at third world countries in Asia, Africa and South America. Activists in the Netherlands became interested in Vietnam in 1965, after which dozens of Vietnam-related committees were established.
The second best represented posters in the collection of the IISG are, after South Africa, the posters related to Vietnam. In addition to being a writer, Jan Wolkers (1925-2007) was also a sculptor and painter and also designed a small number of posters, among other, for the anti-apartheids movement in the Netherlands and the PSP (Pacifist Socialist Party). He also used the target in his designs from 1970 for the posters of the Angola Committee and the Committee Suharto Unwanted.
