‘De nieuwe rijschool’ from 1856 is the oldest movable picture book from the Netherlands. The pictured riders and animals consist of loose parts that can be exchanged: a lion’s head with the back of a camel or a hussar with the pants of a clown. This way, countless combinations can be made.
