- WASHINGTON: Een van de meest interessante standbeelden in Washington is het Iwo Jima Memorial (ook wel Marine Corps War Memorial). Het laat het moment zien dat Amerikaanse soldaten een vlag planten op Mount Suribachi in Japan tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Tijdens dat moment is een foto gemaakt door Associated Press fotograaf JOSEPH ROSENTHAL en die foto is in brons nagemaakt door FELIX DE WELDON.
