Cross-beam
Instrument used to make a marionette move. Typically, it consists of two wooden slats tied together as a cross. Threads are attached to the edges of these slats. On the other end, the threads are fastened to the marionette’s limbs. Puppet players sometimes make their marionette act as if it wants to free itself from their grasp. A similar thing happens in ‘Wonderbaarlijke waargebeurde ontsnapping van de Heer P., a puppet play by Otto van der Mieden and Damiet van Dalsum, written in 1977.
