- Description
- William III and his wife Mary Stuart were crowned as King and Queen of England during a session of the British House of Lords on 11 April 1689. Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) documented this day in the beautiful print with 9 scenes of the coronation, from the fetching of the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London to the bonfires on the River Thames. The coronation itself is depicted in the middle of the print.
