- Description
- The print shows the complex of pleasure gardens of Enghien near Brussels. The plan is part of a series of prints commissioned by Nicolaas Visscher II (1649-1702) and engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708). De Hooghe has drawn his visitors on the crossroad of two lanes. Left is the Grote Alleé that leads to a great lake in the Parc dEnguien. Across the lake is the Pavilion of Samson. To the right the Maliebaan, the playing grounds, where people are playing the Kolfspel. At the far end of the Maliebaan is the Malie house, an inn for the players to relax.
