Deportations
The deportation of Jews began in July 1942. Large groups of Jews reported to the Amsterdam central railway station. Many of them were convinced that they were going to one of the 'job creation camps', unaware of the fact that in many cases they would be transported almost directly to the Auschwitz extermination camp.
The illegal newspapers reacted furiously and full of indignation to the deportations. De Waarheid, for instance, called on policemen to withhold any kind of cooperation. A persuasive appeal was also made to the railway workers. In this illegal pamphlet, none other than the socialist leader Koos Vorrink addresses the population.
