- Shiva is als Batara Guru in het bezit van de hoogste wijsheid en daardoor de leider en goddelijke leraar van het mensdom. Zo hoog is zijn aanzien, dat hij veelal onder de naam Batara Guru als opperwezen, als hoogste god, wordt aangeduid. Zijn attributen: bidsnoer, drietand, vliegenwaaier en waterkruik, zijn versierselen: kastekoord (upavita), halsketting, oorhanger, bovenarmbanden en polsringen. Meestal wordt hij voorgesteld als een bejaarde, zwaarlijvige man in staande houding, knevel en spitse baard dragend en met slechts twee armen. Het beeld stelt hem voor met witte kleur en vier handen, waarvan twee een waterkruik vasthouden. Dit beeld behoort tot een groep van 28 beelden (15-156 t/m 15-182b), gezamenlijk een pantheon van Balinese godheden vormend, dat getoond werd op de Nederlandse koloniale afdeling op de wereldtentoonstelling te Parijs in 1900. Speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling heeft C.M. Pleyte, conservator van 's Rijks Etnografisch Museum in Leiden, deze beelden op Bali laten vervaardigen. Met behulp van enkele priesters selecteerde hij de relevante beelden die vervolgens door Balinese houtsnijders werden nagemaakt.
