- Description
- In Indië bezocht Israëls Batavia, Buitenzorg, Yogyakarta en de Borobudur. Hij verbleef ook enige tijd te Solo aan het hof van de Mangkunagara, waar hij was geïntroduceerd door de danser Raden Mas Yojana, die hij in Nederland had ontmoet. Ook bezocht hij Bali samen met de familie Veth. Over het algemeen genomen beviel het hem in Indië niet zo goed. Hij bezocht het omdat zoveel anderen hem voorgingen. Hij was dan ook blij weer in Nederland terug te zijn. "Nederland is per slot een land waar je je 't beste creatief kunt uitleven, omdar er nooit iets is dat afleidt en er nooit iets gebeurt". Op de vraag wat hem het meest had geïmponeerd op Java was zijn antwoord: "Dat ik het klimaat zo goed verdragen kon".
