- De Verenigde Oost-Indische (VOC) compagnie nam Japans porselein mee uit de Oost als handelswaar. Dit 'porselein op bestelling' is in opdracht van de VOC gemaakt. Daarvoor werden westerse modellen gebruikt, zoals kandelaars, scheerbekkens en po's. Soms is ook de voorstelling gemaakt naar westerse voorbeelden.
