- De Reeuwijksche plassen zijn de binnenwateren van de gemeente Reeuwijk. Deze gemeente maakt deel uit van de provincie Zuid-Holland en ligt ten noordoosten van Gouda. Deze plassen zijn van belang voor de watersport en oeverrecreatie, zoals wandelen en fietsen. De ontginning van het oorspronkelijk met bossen bedekte gebied begon omstreeks het jaar 1000. De plassen ontstonden door vervening in de 17de en 18de eeuw. De droogmakingsplannen, destijds geopperd ten gevolge van de teruglopende turfhandel en de hoge kosten van bemaling, werden in 1930 door de Provinciale Staten van Zuid-Holland verworpen. In 1974 werden de drooggemalen polders Broekvelden en Vettenbroek weer aan het water prijsgegeven. Het grondgebied werd in 1989 uitgebreid met een deel van de destijds opgeheven gemeente Driebruggen.
