- Het is een gek gezicht als je met de trein of auto langs Breukelen rijdt. Midden in het Hollandse landschap staat daar opeens een groot Chinees gebouw. Dit hotel is in 1987 door een Chinees gebouwd, maar om financiele redenen werd het al weer snel van de hand gedaan. Inmiddels heeft het Van der Valkconcern het overgenomen en er een goed lopend bedrijf van gemaakt. De buitenkant is in tact gebleven aan de binnenkant is veel veranderd. Kenmerkend voor de Chinese manier van bouwen is een 'stijl en regelconstructie'. Deze constructie houd in dat het dak op vier stijlen of pijlers rust, met horizontale verbindingsplanken (regels). De ruimte tussen de stijlen en de regels werd opgevuld door muren van hout of van pleisterklei op bamboevlechtwerk of van bakstenen. De basiseenheid van zo'n Chinees gebouw is een vierkante ruimte. Deze ruimte is beperkt doordat de regels in principe niet langer zijn dan boomstammen. Uitbreiding van het bouwwerk gebeurde dan ook door het toevoegen van vierkante kamers, op of naast het reeds bestaande gebouw.
