- Korwars dienen als de tijdelijke verblijfplaats van de ziel van een overledene. Ze zijn de intermediair tussen de wereld der zielen en die der mensen en ze worden tijdens crisissituaties, zoals ziekte en oorlogsdreiging, geraadpleegd. Dit beeldje maakt onderdeel uit van een groep voorouderbeelden van Nias, de Bataklanden en Nieuw Guinea, speciaal verzameld voor de Nederlandse koloniale afdeling op de wereldtentoonstelling te Parijs in 1900, voor het onderdeel 'Animisme in de Indische archipel'. De serienummers 15-330 t/m 15-361 zijn afkomstig uit Nieuw Guinea.
